The most important thing an individual needs to become a Kiwanian is a spirit of caring and a desire to help make a difference. Kiwanians care about the future of their communities, their country, and their world.
Our motto "We Build" translates our care and concern into action. Through each and every project in which we involve ourselves, we build a better community for our children, or in the case of the Worldwide Service Project, we are helping build a better world.
If you see yourself taking a leadership role in a worthy endeavour, great! We need people who care enough to take the lead in a number of areas.
ATTENDANCE
Members are encouraged to attend at least three meetings per month. Where this
isn't possible, there are many ways in which a member can make up this time, by
attending official club functions, board meetings, interclubs, official fund
raising activities and services. Members consider Thursday lunch times as an
oasis in the week where they can escape from the pressures of the office. Many
Kiwanians who use yearly planners, book in their Thursday lunch times for the
full year and arrange all plans around Kiwanis.
Should, for any reason, a member be unable to attend meetings due to illness,
injury, vacation, work commitments, etc., a member may request a leave of
absence by writing to the club secretary.
It is important for members to inform the club of any leave of absence as it
affects the attendance record of the club.
Each year good attendance pins are awarded for the perfect attendance of
members. Ribbons are also awarded to clubs who meet attendance criteria .
MEMBER INDUCTION
Once an individual's application for membership has been processed and
accepted by the Board of Directors, the new Kiwanian will be presented with a
Kiwanis apron, which he/she will be asked to wear to a few luncheon meetings
in order to obtain the signatures of club members. This provides an
opportunity for the new member to meet all members of the club and for them to
meet the new member. As soon as possible after the new member's
acceptance as a member, he/she will be asked to participate in a formal
induction Ceremony, usually performed by the Lieutenant Governor or some other
official of Kiwanis, at one of the regular luncheon meetings.
DUES
Membership dues are payable quarterly. The club
treasurer will provide members with a statement. Membership dues are used to pay
for weekly meals, Kiwanis International fees,
and the administrational costs of operating the club .
