KAMP
CHIEFSWOOD
Since 1992, our Club has provided a summer camp for community referred children in our community. This day camp is held at
Kiwanis Apps Mill Park, a facility, located directly beside a
picturesque nature conservation area, and owned and operated by this
Club. The cost of operating the summer camp is supported by the fees,
donations, and subsidization by the Club. Applications for this
camp are available in the area's schools beginning the end of
April. This year Kamp Chiefswood is offering two types of camping
experiences. The first is our Summer Fun Camp, designed to support
children with emotional, social, financial or specific academic needs in
a fun learning environment. Campers for this camp must be referred
by a home school or agency. The second camp is our Leadership
Camp, designed to facilitate co-operative learning in an inquiry based
atmosphere. For further information, you may contact the Kamp
Directors - Josie Valletta or Meghan Davidson - at k.a.m.p.chiefswood@live.com
MUSIC FESTIVAL
The Kiwanis Club of Brantford and the Ontario Registered
Music
Teachers' Association together provide this event for young and amateur
musicians
in our area. Our aim is to provide a professional, competitive setting
for the continuation of music related activities. The Club has funded
this project for the past fifty years. For further information,
please visit the Music Festival web site at www.brantfordkiwanismusicfestival.com
LIFELINE
This project was capital funded
through the Kiwanis Lifeline Committee raising funds through soliciting
various foundations, etc. in the community. Automatic telephone
dialers are installed in the homes of the infirm, elderly, or individuals who have
difficulty with mobility in the home. The recipient wears a necklace or
wristband that can be used to send a signal to the automatic telephone
dialer should they require assistance.
The
Kiwanis Lifeline program is is housed in the Brantford
General Hospital. You may call the Lifeline office at 751-5820
for additional information.
YOUNG CHILDREN: PRIORITY ONE
This initiative was begun by Kiwanis International as a Major Emphasis
programme in 1990. Individual Clubs were asked to
make their own unique
response to children's needs in the community. Our Club has conducted
2-day sessions for pregnant teenagers for several needs dealing with
prenatal and postnatal information. In addition, we have run successful
Born to Read activity in conjunction with the Brantford Public Library
for mothers and young children. Presently the Club is supporting
the HIV/AIDS project in the Caribbean with a 3 year commitment.
The goal of this District project is to raised $1 million.
This
project was spearheaded by the Kiwanis Club of Brantford. The
Village provides a practical hands-on, interactive approach to
safety education in a controlled environment for the children of
Brantford and Brant County. The Village is located on land
provided by the Brantford Campus of Mohawk College. Visit the
