Service Projects

KAMP CHIEFSWOOD
Since 1992, our Club has provided a summer camp for community referred children in our community. This day camp is held at Kiwanis Apps Mill Park, a facility, located directly beside a picturesque nature conservation area, and owned and operated by this Club. The cost of operating the summer camp is supported by the fees, donations, and subsidization by the Club.  Applications for this camp are available in the area's schools beginning the end of April.  All camps require a referral from a community agency or the school for each child.

MUSIC FESTIVAL
The Kiwanis Club of Brantford and the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association together provide this event for young and amateur musicians in our area. Our aim is to provide a professional, competitive setting for the continuation of music related activities. The Club has funded this project for the past fifty years.  For further information, please visit the Music Festival web site at www.brantfordkiwanismusicfestival.com

LIFELINE
This project is capital funded through the Kiwanis Lifeline Committee raising funds through soliciting various foundations, etc. in the community.  Automatic telephone dialers are installed in the homes of the infirm, elderly, or individuals who have difficulty with mobility in the home. The recipient wears a necklace or wristband that can be used to send a signal to the automatic telephone dialer should they require assistance.

The Kiwanis Lifeline program is is housed in the McClure Building, 217 Terrace Hill Street (directly across the street from the Brantford General Hospital).  You may call the Lifeline office at 751-5820 for additional information.

YOUNG CHILDREN: PRIORITY ONE
This initiative was begun by Kiwanis International as a Major Emphasis programme in 1990. Individual Clubs are asked  to make their own unique response to children's needs in the community. Our Club has conducted 2-day sessions for pregnant teenagers for several needs dealing with prenatal and postnatal information. In addition, we run a successful Born to Read activity in conjunction with the Brantford Public Library for mothers and young children.

BLOOD DONOR CLINIC
The Club sponsors this clinic each fall at the Branch 90 Canadian Legion, phoning, and assisting donors who participate.

ACT/CPR

The ACT-Kiwanis partnership began in 1994, when ACT approached the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa with the ACT High School CPR Program proposal. The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa embraced the program and donated CPR mannequins to local schools. Building on this model, Kiwanis Clubs across Canada are partnering with ACT and playing a major role in the ACT High School CPR Program by donating mannequins to schools in their communities. Together, Kiwanis and ACT are building better communities. Over 40 Kiwanis Clubs are already involved in partnering with ACT in the high school CPR initiative by donating mannequins to schools.  The Kiwanis Club of Brantford sponsored this program in the Brantford Collegiate Institute, Pauline Johnson Collegiate, and North Park Collegiate.  The new Kiwanis Club of Paris supported the program in Paris District High School.

WINDOWS ON LAURIER

The first Windows on Laurier Essay Contest was launched in September of 1999, the year Wilfrid Laurier University opened its Brantford Campus.  The purpose of the contest was to raise awareness and support of Brantford's new university campus.  It is sponsored by our club and the Mayor's office and is open to high school students in Brantford, Brant County, Six Nations of the Grand River territory, and Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation.
